Joint implementation

This is another mechanism  which developed countries can use to help achieve their Kyoto emissions targets.  In this scheme, one developed country can invest in an emission reduction project in another developed country and claim the emission credits.  Few Joint Implementation (JI) projects have got off the ground so far but its expected that many countries will soon invest in projects in Eastern Europe and Russia where there are many inefficient generation facilities and industrial sites that could be redeveloped resulting in fewer emissions.
