Plumbing system design
Hot water pipes lose a lot of heat before they reach the kitchen, bathroom or laundry taps, particularly if there is a long length of pipe between the cylinder and the tap. If you are building a new house or renovating try to place the hot water cylinder as close to the kitchen, bathroom and laundry taps as possible
To reduce heat loss you should wrap the hot water pipes with lagging material along the whole of their length. This will also shorten the time you have to wait for hot water to get to your taps.
If all of the hot water pipe is not accessible, wrap at least the first metre of hot water pipe coming out of the hot water cylinder.
