Who is responsible?

People have caused the environmental impacts that have eventuated from unsustainable practices. Human society is also the solution. Responsibilities can be categorised as to which section of society can implement certain solutions. The categories are:

Individuals
Individual choice is the ultimate responsibility but no individual works in isolation and his range of choices are determined to a large extent by circumstances and the options available.

Families
Families are the fundamental social unit. Their influence is felt on the individuals that make them up and also on the communities which they make up

Communities 1 | Businesses

Businesses may be local, regional, national or multinational but they all work within local communities and have a strong influence on the sustainability of those communities. Businesses have unique and critical responsibilities for developing sustainability.

Communities 2 |
Groups and organisations
These are both formal and informal and include schools, churches, hospitals, museums, cultural and sports clubs, societies and associations.

Regions
Communities work within wider regional networks and are therefore influence regional economy and politics. Sustainable solutions at a regional level include waste management, water management and resource management and regulations.

Nations
Solutions at a national level include regulations, taxes, subsidies, grants and infrastructure.

Global
Global solutions involve protocols, treaties and agreements between nations that help to ensure co-operation and fairness.
